The CMD Panel has argued, at least since the publication of the Continuing Education of the Church's Ministers in 1980, that particular attention should be given to transitions points in ministry. Indeed that good ministerial practice sees:
...a positive engagement with ongoing developmental learning at all stages of ministry.
So what might this look like? One area of practice that has particularly developed in the last decade has been provision for clergy in 'mid-ministry'. This is a somewhat contested label particularly as the demographic profile of the clergy population has significantly shifted in the last 40 years. Nonetheless, if you've been ordained over a decade and in your early fifties you will propably be experiencing both signficant life and ministerial transitions. It can be an important time to take stock. You can find in the report below an overview of diocesan provision in this area.
